Dorothea Dix

Over 150 years ago a remarkable, visionary woman — Dorothea Dix — persuaded the North Carolina legislature to set aside a magnificent tract of land for a healing environment for the mentally ill.

This rare North Carolina pre-Civil War historical treasure will gradually become a great urban Destination Park. Its priority will always be the Power of Nature, preserved for all people.
